Hamta Pass is located at the height of 4270 meters (14009 feet) on the Pir Panjal range in the Himalayas. This is a small corridor between Lahaul and Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. This trek starts from the “Jobari Nala” of the village “Sethan” near Manali’s nearby area and is completed in Spiti (Chatru). This pass is often used by the herders of the lower Himalayan region, which during the summer the dry cold desert of Lahoul The demand for high-altitude grassland in the growing number of wild flowers and herbs increases at the height of 3000 to 3800 meters. The walls of vertical rock, water falls, gl Beers are hung, small lakes, peaks above 6000 meters, are the main features of this trek. People need proper guidance to cross some glaciers, from Hamata can extend their journey towards a beautiful Chandrtaal.
Hampta pass trek is considered the easiest and convenient of all treks in H.P. It might not be the most adrenalin rush giving or the most sought after trek, but definitely it is a trek that will leave you in awe of this beautiful place. The variation in the trails is enormous; scenic landscapes, open green pastures and meadows, glacial valleys, easy access and an exceptional, adventurous and hair raising crossing of the pass makes this trekking expedition to Hampta pass an exciting one.
DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1
Get down at 15 mile (12 km before Manali and 23 km after Kullu) from bus. We will pick you at 15 Mile. One can reach to base camp . There will be fresh and breakfast in the base camp. All the trekker will have to go through the registration process. Lunch will take place at 1 pm. and we will go for a acclimatiza-tion walk . Overnight stay at camp .
DAY 2
After breakfast, we arrive at Hamta “Jobari Nala” after a 2 hour drive. After crossing the main road for 3 hours from the starting point of this trek from the start of the “Chikaka” camp, take a short route which leads to the pine tree forest. You can also find other types of trees such as maple, cedar, toss and oak. The sight is fresh, the sloping slope is not an easy and very vertical. Either way you have reached Chika which is at the end of the vast grass, but it is a better and easier way to climb the hill and reach Chika. The Chika camp site is a huge green patch. Tonight you will be in the camp, and the campfire will stay in the night if you get dry wood.
DAY 3
After taking breakfast and packed lunch at 7a.m in the morning, you will leave for “sand siege”. Af-ter running for 1 hour from “ Chikka” , cross the “Juara” River which is very cold. For “Balu ka Ghera” it is 4 hours to walk along the river. It will be a little bit steep. Here you will be camped with the “Balu ka Ghera”.
Day 4
After breakfast and packed lunch at 7 a.m you will leave for “Shiya Gohru”. Today’s half way will be a stone and a bit climbing and you will reach “Hamta Pass Top” within 3 hours of camp. After the top, Shia Gohru will remain completely descended, which is a little risky, Trek begins to surround the pool of water to enter the partially dried Himalayan river bed. The climb is all the way from Hampton. As you cross, you enter Lahaul region and the change in scenes is very the opposite. The path is completely downhill from the pass. After some walk you will be able to see the “Shia Gohru” camping site in the direction of the flow of the river. Here you have to cross the river which is very cold. This river is born from Hamta Glacier. After crossing this river you will reach the camp. It will be the coldest night in the camp.
Day 5
After breakfast and packed lunch at 7 a.m. you will be leaving for “Chhatru”. Today the entire route from camp to “Chhatru” camp will be descend , which will be 3 hours. After reaching the camp, you will take for “Chandrataal “, which is 70. It is a blue and sacred lake, the myths say that Yudhisthira , the largest Pandava, was called from Chandra Taal to heaven. And back then “Chhatru” ,will be staying in the camp to-night.
Day 6
After breakfast, we will travel through Via Rohtang Pass for Manali, which is a 4/5 hour journey. And we will leave you in the Manali Volvo bus stand. Take your home with a bag full of sweet memories. Our wonderful experience of trekking in Himachal ends.

There is/are nearly 54 direct bus(es) plying between New Delhi to Manali. The minimum time a bus takes to reach Manali from New Delhi is 12h 30m.
The cheapest way to reach Manali from New Delhi takes you 14h 08m, which is to take train with train number 04070 from New Delhi to Ambala Cantt then take State Transport Bus from Ambala Cantt to Manali.
The fastest way to reach Manali from New Delhi takes you 9h 25m, which is to take Flight from New Delhi to Chandigarh then take HRTC Buses from Chandigarh to Manali.
