Very few have been as closely associated with India’s dance music scene as Ashvin Mani Sharma aka Calm Chor has. Ashvin’s 17-year long career has seen him storm dancefloors around the globe, from Paradiso in Amsterdam to Blue Frog in Mumbai, first with Jalebee Cartel, and after that under his solo techno avatar Calm Chor.

In the year 2013, Ashvin co-founded Soupherb records, along with his friend and fellow artist/DJ – Ash Roy. In a span of 2, Soupherb records have built a reputation to be India’s finest underground dance music record label.

Apart from being label head, producer, DJ & A&R at Soupherb records, Calm Chor also represents Bass 9 records for A&R.
Ashvin is constantly touring India, owing to his distinct sound and enthralling sets. Every summer he tours Germany extensively for over 2 months (for 5 years now), playing at some of the best festivals and clubs in the country.
2014 saw him visit the USA for the first time, where he got an opportunity to perform at the prestigious Burning Man festival.

Feb 2015 saw Calm Chor release his massive 8-track EP “Dancefloor Sci-Fi”, displaying his unique style in full force, on homegrown label Soupherb records. The EP went on to grab multiple spots on various charts on the world’s biggest online music portal, Beatport. It climbed to the #2 spot on the worldwide minimal charts and claimed that spot for a few days, staying in the top 10 for nearly 3 weeks, and even hit the Beatport overall Top 100 releases and stayed there for a long period of time.

Early 2013, Folic State was signed to one of India’s top record label - SoupHerb Records, an imprint by underground music’s biggest champions, techno-lads Ash Roy & Ashvin Mani Sharma, which led to the release of his debut EP ‘The Vulgar Story’ in 2014. 2015 saw him craft two stellar EPs, ‘Spooky Town’ on Occultech Recordings, followed by ‘Deep Soul’ on Buena Onda Records, which are a testament to his quest to blur the lines between autumnal, emotive house music and modern club-style techno. His EP ‘Deep Soul’ sees six solid cuts that range from brooding and deep to elemental and tech-y, all rooted in subtle texture. The EP includes two cracking remixes by Hamburg-duo Piemont and label boss Gurwan. The track ‘Another Zone (Gurwan No Go Remix)’ was featured on the renowned ‘Balance Series’ compilation by the legendary Stacey Pullen. With consistent quality releases, 2017 saw releases on Oculus Records, Copycow as well as his Collaborative EP ‘The Hive’ with Synister, label head of Occultech Recordings which created some chart action on beatport’s TOP 100 Minimal Releases! But that’s not all, January 7th 2018 he gives birth to his 5th EP ‘Night Flight’ on Qilla Records, which displays Folic State’s versatility and wide spectrum of writing music. During promo rounds the EP got huge support from big wigs as well as immense local support. He also makes his debut with a remix on renowned UK based Techno Label Plazma Records! Be it his DJ sets or his own productions, Folic State weaves a story of sound; decidedly buoyant through its moments of clarity, and pensive and introspective when concealed – an astute step forward in the world of dance music.
