Nagaland, a small mountain state in the far east of the country, is home to many wonders of nature. The state with a colorful culture lies between the mighty Brahmaputra and the giant mountain passes of Myanmar. The Nagas also have a history of defending the country fiercely from the Japanese attack during World War II, for which the state still has memorials around Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland.
Monks on Wheels in association with Muddie Trails, brings to you the land of festivals with vibrant and diverse indigenous cultures, where over 16 different tribes reside. It’s the state of Nagaland.
The major attraction of Nagaland is the Dzukou valley, known as the “Valley of Flowers”, where, in the monsoon, blooms the Dzukou lily. Dzukou valley is set in a “mountain wave” structure, where the mountains are spread like waves to distances as far as the naked eye could reach. The setting makes you feel like you have entered a whole new world, like a world from the fairy tales, making you awestruck with its perfection.
Our trip will start with an overnight stay at Dimapur, where travelers coming from the Guwahati railway station and the Dimapur Airport will be picked up and dropped off. The land of tribes, the capital of Nagaland, that is Kohima, will be our first spot of visit. There, we will explore some of the local attractions of the state.
Kisama village, which hosts the famous Hornbill Festival every year, is going to be our next destination. The village will also showcase to us the culture of Nagas in full glory, starting from attire to music, and we could also try the local rice beers and foods in this village.
Without a trek to the Dzukou valley, the Nagaland trip will be incomplete! Here, we will be spending 2 days admiring the most beautiful sights of nature, trekking through rainforests and amidst the dwarf bamboo. We will camp under the sky, adorned with a million stars, treating you to some unforgettable nights.
Nagaland will surely take up space in the memories that you will cherish forever. So why wait? Join us in exploring this wonder in the Northeast, Nagaland.

Most of these places in Heritage village are actively decorated during Hornbill festival of early December.

Day 3: Dzukou Valley: Trek to Fairy Land, Camping
Breakfast time.
The day we have been waiting for has arrived. Today we shall trek to the heavenly Dzukou valley. Our Dzukou cab will pick people from the homestay.
Note: Dzukou Valley doesn’t have a mobile network, no shops, no civilization. It is advised to carry some cash & pack some snacks.
You may put your bigger backpacks at the Homestay and carry only a small backpack with essentials. Our guide will give individual sleeping bags to each trekker, and our Porter will carry heavier tents.
The initial part of the trek, around 2 hours of the mountain slope, is steep and surrounded by rainforest.
Once we hike up the mountain, a completely new world appears in front of our eyes. Tens of rolling hills carpeted by dwarf bamboo trees welcome trekkers with captivating views.
This remaining part of trek of about 3 hours through the valley is relatively easy but long. The beauty of the valley will make trekkers forget everything else.
We will reach base camp, located in a magnificent setting at the other end.
After a brief rest, we will head to the Helipad and enjoy a beautiful sunset if the skies are clear.
Gear up for a very, very cold night. Weather permitting, our Dzukou camp may even arrange a common bonfire.
Have a basic but hot Dinner before resting in your assigned tents.
Day 4: Explore the Fairyland, Trek back to Earth, and stay at Kisama
6 AM start: Today, we shall trek down the valley to reach breathtaking grasslands, pristine and cold flowing rivers, and floating clouds that act as a crown to the majestic mountain peaks.
This 3 Km trek down is the icing on the cake of the already unimaginable setting of the Dzukou valley
After taking endless selfies, groupfies, and Reels, we will finally trek up to our base camp
Finish Breakfast.
Resume our trek along the hills, and finally hike down the rainforest of the mountain slope to return to the base village.
Our Dzukou vehicle will be waiting at the parking lot to pick up exhausted trekkers.
Once we are dropped off at the stay by early evening, there is no more activity planned for the day.
Your body asks for rest after 2 days of trek and exploration; it deserves a hot water bath.
Finish Dinner and have a tight sleep.
