There’s something comforting about coming home to a light that’s already on.
I’M HOME is a warm, intimate Akari-inspired lamp-making workshop built around that feeling. Using rice paper, bamboo and soft light, you’ll create a small house-shaped lamp entirely by hand — your own little symbol of returning, belonging and being home.
Inspired by the Japanese tradition of Akari paper lamps, the session brings together light, material and form in a slow, tactile way. You’ll build the structure, shape your house, work with paper and texture, and watch it transform once the light comes on.
The idea is simple: just as the lights at home come on when you return, this lamp becomes your own little glowing “I’m home.”
No prior experience needed. Just come spend a cozy weekend evening making something personal, imperfect and entirely yours.
What to expect:
- Introduction & Materials — understanding the form, paper and structure
- Build Your House — creating the lamp frame using bamboo sticks and reed coils
- Paper & Form — wrapping and shaping the lamp using rice paper
- Finishing Touches — adding colour, texture and small details that make it yours
- The Light-On Moment — seeing your handmade house come alive for the first time
Materials included:
Rice paper, bamboo sticks, reed coils, glue, brushes, glue gun for use, tape, coloured papers and all other materials required during the session.
