Kaam Bhaari Rap is poetry on a beat, which is cushioned comfort for Mumbai-based Kunal Pandagle who is at peaces pilling words that are triggered by the metronome alone. As Kaam Bhaari, the 20-year-old lyrical machine has been representing Kandivali 101 ever since hip-hop emerged as a natural medium of expression in his early teenage years.Poems and dedications of love to his sister on Rakhi and, to his first dog found a rhythm to a beat. Before he knew it, Kaam was rapping to substitute language with his newfound expression –in school, at home and eventually on the internet. This was the beginning of an everlasting love affair between Kunal and hip-hop which sowed the seeds for his first project, ‘Series 101’ on YouTube. With a phone in hand and a buddy by his side, Kaam Bhaari from Kandivali 101 found peace as a 17-year-old in shooting basic videos featured on the internet; one of which was singled out from amongst 1500 entries which were to be selected for Ranveer Singh’s‘Jack and Jones’ campaign in 2015. After the selection, Kunal received stable validation for his talent which further encouraged him to take on the craft professionally.
Do you remember The “Asli Hip Hop” hook from the Gully Boy that we all have been tapping our foot to? It was created by Nitin Mishra, aka Spitfire, the young rapper from the great town Madhya Pradesh who went on to become the lead writer in the Ranveer Singh-starrer Gully Boy.Very early on, he knew if he were to dive into an unconventional career, he’d have to support himself. He was 15 when he was bit by the hip hop bug. A sense of unease, restlessness, and angst, had begun to set in, but back then he was not aware that the freedom he sought will eventually come from his own words. All he knew was that he had things to say. That’s the spark he caught and went to becoming one of the most sensational rap artists in the country. What sets Mishra’s rhymes apart are their linguistically striking features that describe his intense desire to break out, and speak out against everything that held him back.
Meet Altaf Shaikh AKA MC Altaf, a 19-year old rapper from Dharavi, Mumbai, who has a song in the famous movie Gully Boy. Altaf has done more than just singing a song for this film. He has taught Ranveer Singh the ‘Bambaiya’ lingo and also helped with additional dialogues in the film!After the Gully Boy auditions, Altaf was chosen to “improve” and contemporise the film’s dialogues. He worked with Ranveer Singh, who plays a rapper from the Mumbai slums, for almost two months.Amid rap battles and cyphers MC Altaf also has many singles and music videos with the real gully boys Naezy, Spitfire, KR$NA, Dub Sharma, KaamBhari, and Dee MC thereby creating a superb fan following for himself.Meet MC Altaf
