STRING ART - With Urban Ladder
Want to learn something that's part art, part math? Walk into the Urban Ladder store on the 14th of April for an engrossing workshop on string art!
String art, or pin and thread art, is an arrangement of coloured threads strung between points to form patterns. So what's the math angle? Simply that it has its origins in the 'curve stitch' activities invented by Mary Boole at the end of the 19th century - to make the idea of calculus more accessible to children. And then in the 1970s, string art went mainstream, when artists began using it to create increasingly complex figures.
In this workshop, facilitators from Bloom and Grow will guide you to make interesting compositions on a 5" x 7" wooden piece using string art. They will also take you through its applications on various materials, so you can go home and experiment with the technique. At the end of the workshop, you'll take home with you a piece of quirky string artwork.
So come over, and string along a friend if you will!
