
Richie Hawtin is a British Canadian DJ, producer, and electronic music innovator, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern techno. Born in England and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, close to Detroit, he was deeply influenced by the Detroit techno movement, which shaped his minimalist and futuristic approach to electronic music.
He is best known for his work under the alias Plastikman, a project that became iconic for its stripped back, experimental sound and conceptual live performances. Richie Hawtin is also the founder of the Plus 8 and MINUS record labels, both of which played a major role in defining and globalizing minimal and techno music. Renowned for pushing technological boundaries, he has been a pioneer in using digital tools, live performance setups, and audiovisual concepts in DJing and live shows.
