The 5th Edition of Unscene in May pairs an unlikely yet intriguing couple – slow, sludgy Doom Metal with blistering Punk; different pace but both very visceral. The Metal night on May 10th has Primitiv and Dirge from Mumbai and The Grim Mage from Bengaluru spinning their web of dark magic. The Indie/Punk night on May 11th will be ripped open by the all-out Punk attack of Mumbai’s Punk On Toast and Chennai’s Broadway Addicts. May 10 - Metal night: Primitiv: Primitiv is one of the busiest bands in the Indian Metal live circuit, which is not surprising how well-received their debut album, “Immortal And Vile” and their hard-hitting live performances across cities have been. The band likes to call its sound “Stone Age Metal”, a vile blend of heavy, doom and death metal. They combine that powerful sound with stories in each song of a post-apocalyptic world of monsters, machines, and magic. Dirge: Dirge takes the term “bring the heavy on!!” very seriously. The band’s music is a piledriver of doom with overdriven fuzz, what the band calls “10,000 ton” heavy riffs, deep distorted bass lines and screaming, anguished vocals. The band is working on its debut album themed on a mix of history, myth, and fiction of the resurgence of the violent Maya. The Grim Mage: One of Bengaluru’s most promising metal bands, The Grim Mage’s music is a fascinating mix of heavy riff-driven doom/sludge metal and down turned punk. This is a band to watch out for.
