Apache Reprise is a tribute to the The Shadows and The Ventures, two of the greatest instrumental bands that originated in the late 1950’s. The Shadows started as a group of 16-year-old school drop outs (Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch)from Newcastle, UK in 1957 while The Ventures started as a collaboration on a Johnny Smith classic between two construction workers (Don Wilson and Bob Bogle) in Tacoma, Washington back in 1958. Both these bands are best known for their melodic and foot tapping covers of popular, pop, rock and jazz numbers. Apache Reprise is an effort to revive their classic renditions and the genre of instrumental music. ‘Apache Reprise’ The word ‘Apache’ stems from the popular instrumental classic by Jerry Lordan (1958) and later recorded by Bert Weedon which was the first hit single to be covered by The Shadows back in 1960. As the transatlantic counter parts, The Ventures were not far behind and immortalized this classic through their rendition released in 1963. ‘Reprise’, simply indicating a revival of their music.
