Kutch embroidery work is a traditional embroidery of Gujarat. The embroidery is marked by its usage of bright-colored cotton thread to embellish home decor and personal clothing. The technique that results in Kutch designs comprises of the usage of a skeleton stitch and a weaving pattern. These two processes can be used to create a range of designs from simple geometric patterns to more complex motifs.
In this workshop, the basic Kutch designs will be taught in practice fabric on the first day (7 August). On the second day of workshop (12 August) participants can bring the fabric of their choice, trace a design and carry out a beautiful Kutch work on their fabric.
All material required for the workshop will be provided including practice fabric and embroidery skeins needles.
Minimum age to participate: 12 years
The facilitator of this workshop is Priya Shankar. Priya has done masters in Textiles and clothing, worked as a lecturer in this field and has more than 20 years of experience in hand embroidery, tailoring, crocheting. Priya specifically has a social interest in traditional embroideries of India.
