Living Philosophy is a 19-week foundation course in Practical Philosophy offered at the centers of New Acropolis, Bangalore. The course brings the wisdom of ancient philosophies from the East and the West to inspire us to lead more harmonious lives in today’s times.
The course comprises 19 sessions (1 session of 2 hours every Monday evening). The sessions include lectures and active exercises to enable introspection and reflection, making the teachings practical and applicable to contemporary living. The course also includes an experiential seminar and volunteering and cultural projects.
All the sessions aim to bring ancient wisdom in a way that can be integrated in our lives, which enables change in ourselves and in society.
The Living Philosophy journey traverses three sections:
Man and the Self – Tools to understand ourselves and the means to give an expression to our best human potential. Through perspectives from the philosophies of ancient civilizations across the world, we deal with questions around purpose and meaning, happiness, ethics and freedom.
This section unpacks some teachings from the Bhagavad Gita, the Stoics, Aristotle, Buddha, Confucius, and ancient Egypt.
Man and Society – The quality of our life depends greatly on the quality of our relationships. This section offers tools to understand the fabric of society and find our place in it. Key topics include Ethical Leadership, Justice, Education and forms of Governance.
We dip into teachings from Plato’s Republic and the wisdom of Pythagoras, amongst others in this section.
Man and the Cosmos – The zoomed-out picture: As humanity, where have we come from, where are we going, and what is the role of the individual in the larger scheme of life? We touch upon the cycles of time, mythology, and how the human being can connect to the divine.
This section deals with myths and the wisdom from ancient Indian and Greek texts.
All the classes will be held physically at the main center of New Acropolis, Bangalore which is situated in Indiranagar.
This is an introductory session to take you through a 1-hour session about the essence of the course and all other details so you can make an informed decision if you'd like to join us on this journey.
The course begins on Monday, August 16th, and thereafter every Monday for 19 weeks.
