Vijay Prakash

About:

Decades back, Gulzar had written in his famous song Naam Ghum Jaayega, “Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan hai.” One feels this aptly defines singer Vijay Prakash, whose songs are more famous than the man himself. Be it Jai ho, Cheeni Kum, Beera Beera or Hosanna, the baritone voice of this singer from Mysore is known to almost everybody in India. However, despite the fact that Vijay has sung for more than 3,000 jingles and a number of Hindi film songs, his name in Bollywood isn’t as well known.

Born in Mysore, Karnataka on 21st February 1976 to Carnatic singers Shri.L.Ramashesha and Smt.R.Lopamudra, Vijay Prakash moved from Mysore to Mumbai in 1996, where he became a student of famed playback singer Shri.Suresh Wadkar. He got his first break in Hindi cinema with the film Baaz in 2002, and his first song for A. R. Rahman was in Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades, followed by the same composer's Tamil title track for the movie New. His song "Kavite" in Kannada movie Gaalipata too became famous.

He was one of the lead singers of the song ‘ Jai Ho ‘ from the Oscar and Grammy award-winning blockbuster ‘ Slumdog Millionaire ‘ which had music composed by A.R.Rahman.In 2010, he became a regular singer under composer A. R. Rahman, as he performed several of his numbers such as "Hosanna" (Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, Ye Maaya Chesave), "Beera Beera, Veera Veera (in Tamil & Telugu Versions)" (Raavan & Raavanan), "Powerstar" (Komaram Puli) and "Kadhal Anukkal" (Enthiran).
