Bhutan Road trip with WanderOn

This New Year, explore the land of thunder dragon.

Bhutan is the one of the world's most peaceful and happy country. Where 72% of the total land is still a forest. In this trip, we are going to visit the majestic Himalayan country. It would be a road trip from Siliguri to Siliguri.

Places we will be covering would be the Financial capital of Bhutan (Phuentsholing), Country capital (Thimphu), very famous Punakha Dzong & iconic monasteries like Tigers nest in Paro. It is the last great Himalayan kingdom, shrouded in mystery and magic, where a traditional Buddhist culture carefully embraces global developments.

Day 1: Siliguri Arrival. 

  • Reach Siliguri and meet the team and your fellow travelers
  • Check in your hotel and relax.
  • You can go for local sight-seeing, from tea plantations to Salugara Monasteries.
  • Explore the local market, the Hong Kong market and come back to the hotel by the night for dinner.
  • Attend a priority introduction and briefing about the days to come.
  • Sleep Overnight.

Day 2: Siliguri to Phuentsholing | Bhutan Starts 

  • The day is gonna be a long ride through the mountains of Assam and ending in the border town of Phuentsholing, Bhutan.
  • Wake up early and get ready for the start of an amazing road trip.
  • Enjoy your breakfast and get briefed about the day ahead.
  • Depart for Phuentsholing.
  • The journey will take you through the winding roads and dense forest lands of Assam.
  • This will take around 6-7 hours to complete the journey with multiple photo sessions along the way.
  •  Reach Phuentsholing by the evening.
  • Check into the hotel and you can go to explore this border city, you can also visit crocodile zoo.
  • Have your dinner at the hotel in the evening and sleep overnight.

Day 3: Phuentsholing to Thimphu  

  • Wake up early and enjoy your breakfast.
  • Post a briefing for the day depart for Thimphu.
  • The roads takes you through the mountains, winding routes and serene nature.
  • Ride along river Wang Chu and reach Chuzom. It's where roads bifurcate for Thimphu and Paro.
  • Ride along river Thimphu Chu and reach Thimphu by evening.
  • Check into the hotel and chill around and have your dinner.
  • Sleep overnight.

Day 4: Exploring Thimphu 

  • Wake up early to experience a beautiful morning.
  • Visit Changangkha Lhakhang and Zangtho Pelri monasteries are beautiful monasteries in Thimphu. Full of Buddhist monks and enchanting vibes, they have a peaceful aura around them.
  • Tashichho Dzong (Thimphu Zong) is a fortress and a monastery.
  • These monasteries provide an undisturbed view of Thimphu and surrounding valley.
  • Thimphu offers you with lot of shopping options, rich in textile. Historical museums are an exquisite way to get to know about the culture.
  • Thimphu has the world's largest Buddha statue, Buddha Dordenma. Feast your eyes on such magnificence as your heart prays.
  • Reach back hotel by the night for dinner and sleep overnight.

Day 5: Thimphu to Punakha | DochuLa pass 

  • Start your day with enjoying a beautiful sunrise in the valley.
  • Post breakfast depart for Punakha. A short and simple ride from Thimphu to Punakha takes you through the DochuLa Pass.
  • There are 108 stupas here situated known as Druk Wangyal Chortens made in the honour of martyrs.
  • DochuLa is a snow covered mountain pass.
  • Reach Punakha and check into the hotel.
  • Go on to explore Punakha Dzong. Famous for the special Bhutanese architecture.
  • Have your dinner and sleep overnight.

Day 6: Punakha to Paro 

  • Wake up early and post breakfast depart for Paro.
  • It's a beautiful 5 hours journey through the mountains.
  • Reach Paro by afternoon. Get checked in the hotel.
  • Go on to explore Paro Dzong. Its a beautiful rugged fortress lined with beautiful mountains.
  • After this we shall visit ancient Tazing, lined which houses the National Museum to understand the culture and past of Bhutan.
  • Soon after that we move on to pay homage at the oldest temples in Bhutan-Kyichu . There are temples here built as back as 7th century.
  • Reach hotel by night for dinner and sleep over night.

Day 7: Paro - Taktsang Monastery – Paro 

  • Wake up early and have your breakfast.
  • Depart for Taktsang Monastery.
  • We ride through the beautiful country side and golden paddy fields.
  • After ascending through some curvy roads we reach turn after which we see breath taking pine trees and cottages.
  • Start your trek for the monastery.
  • Witness steep slopes and dusky paths as you tread on the steps literally hanging in mid-air while closing in with 700 steps.
  • Reach Monastery and experience the time being stopped in the serenity of this magical place.
  • Come back to your vehicles and go on to explore the stunning Kyichu Lhankhang temple.
  • In the evening enjoy your time in the euphoric environment of Paro valley and sleep through the night.

8 Day 8: Paro to Siliguri 

  • Wake up early and post breakfast depart back as you bid adieu to this wonderous land of thunder Dragon.
  • Ride back to Siliguri in India.
  • Reach back by night.
  • Enjoy your much needed stay in hotel.
  • Depart back home next day.
  • Reach home with bag full of amazing memories.

  • Age Limit: 16+
  • Transfer of your bookings to other persons are not allowed, name mentioned at the time of confirmation are the only person will be allowed to travel. 
  • Full payment of the trip cost has to be paid before the trip starts, pending payments may lead to cancellation of your trip.
  • No boarding without valid govt id. Your id will be checked before boarding.
  • Any given inclusion not availed by the client will not be refunded in any case.
  • Management shall not take responsibility for missing items during the trip, travellers have to take care of there luggage and belongings.
  • AC will be switched off on hills and during the waiting time. Also, during the trip, it will be driver’s discretion for putting off AC if the road and travel doesn’t support. This is for traveller's safety as the route can be dangerous and the vehicle may not be able to pull offload with AC running.
  • Departure time is given and is fixed. You have to report by that time, it’s on you to update your status to trip coordinator. Anyone missing the bus will not be entertained for refund etc and it will not be WanderOn’s responsibility. We will try to call you twice before departure.
  • We do not provide any insurance policy covering the expenses for accident, sickness, loss due to theft or any other reason.
  • We shall not be responsible for any delays and alterations in the programme or expenses incurred-directly due to natural hazard, accident, and breakdown of machinery, equipment’s, transport, weather condition, sickness, landslides, political closures or any untoward incidents.
  • Numerous factors such as weather, road conditions, the physical ability of participants etc. May cause itinerary change. We reserve the rights to change any schedule in the interest of safety, comfort and general well-being.
  • Internet handling fee per ticket may be levied. Please check your total amount before payment.
  • Tickets once booked cannot be exchanged or refunded.
