About Kodaikanal :

Kodaikanal is a city in the hills of the Dindigul district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Its name in the Tamil language means "The Gift of the Forest" and is also referred to as the "Princess of hill stations" and has a long history as a retreat and popular tourist destination.

A hill town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Kodaikanal is set in an area of granite cliffs, forested valleys, lakes, waterfalls and grassy hills. At 2,000 meters above sea level, the town centers around man-made, star-shaped Kodaikanal Lake, bordered by evergreen forest. Rowing boats can be hired, and hikers and cyclists follow the 5k Lake Road path around the shore.

  • Pine tree forest : Situated in the southwest of Kodaikanal, Pine Forest is one of the most famous tourist spots in the city. The sight of pine trees present in abundance and welcoming you to their world is nothing but nature's wonder with the forests appearing grey with dried cones and leaves. The forests are surrounded by a vegetation of mushrooms popularly known as the magic mushrooms, which are believed to be hallucinogenic. One can opt for horse riding, nature walks or taking photographs. An exciting camping experience can be looked forward to at the forests after you obtain permission from the local authorities about the same.
  • Mahalakshmi temple : Situated at the outskirts of the Poombarai village, is the Mahalakshmi temple which is famous for its scenic beauty than the spiritual reasons. It is built as per the Kerala temple architecture style. The temple is surrounded by beautiful valleys, hills and plains.
     
  • Poombarai village view : Poombarai is a tiny village that is famous for its production of garlic. It is comfortably nestled among terraced fields and lush greenery. It stands at the height of 1,920 m in the Palani Hills and offers a picturesque view of the surroundings. You get to see colourful houses laid out in neverending greenery. Poombarai is as tranquil as it is mesmerising, and makes for a fantastic addition to any Kodaikanal trip. This small village with a population that does not exceed 6000 is hugged by lush green hills and is often referred to as Kodaikanal’s Best Kept Secret.
     
  • Kulanthai velappar temple : This temple has a rich history of over 3000 years and was consecrated by his holiness Bhogar. Every year, in Poombarai, Ther Thiruvizha (car festival) is celebrated. The temple is located in a scenic location surrounded by beautiful hills and valleys. The breathtaking Poombarai village view point is very close by.
     
  • Mannavanur lake: Undeniably the most serene place that you can visit on Kodaikanal tour, Mannavanur Lake is nothing less than a nature’s paradise. This lake, as the name suggest is located in Mannavanur village, which is around 34 km away from Kodaikanal. This picturesque lake, can be seen as you drive down to the village. The view of lake amid the captivating meadows with majestic hills at some distance is worth capturing. The drive to the lake is equally enchanting with eucalyptus and pine trees surrounding the road on both the sides. As you pass across these trees, lush greenery with rich flora and fauna greets you at Mannavanur.
     
  • Kodai lake :  How can someone visit Kodaikanal and not visit the most famous tourist attraction  there? Kodaikanal Lake is actually a man-made lake but is very beautiful with its green surroundings. Kodaikanal Lake covers a sprawling area of 60 acres and has a star shape. The lake receives water from the Palani Hills and Silver Cascade Waterfalls which is another very famous attraction in Kodaikanal. You can also see a variety of flora, fauna, and aquatic animals. Also, you can spot Kurinji Flower which is peculiar to the Lake. You can also take up several activities like boating, cycling, and others. There are many stalls too from where you can shop for woollen clothes and other stuff. Cycling is a must to experience here because the area you will be cycling on is very gorgeous.
