About Kodaikanal :

Kodaikanal is a city in the hills of the Dindigul district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Its name in the Tamil language means "The Gift of the Forest" and is also referred to as the "Princess of hill stations" and has a long history as a retreat and popular tourist destination.

A hill town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Kodaikanal is set in an area of granite cliffs, forested valleys, lakes, waterfalls and grassy hills. At 2,000 meters above sea level, the town centers around man-made, star-shaped Kodaikanal Lake, bordered by evergreen forest. Rowing boats can be hired, and hikers and cyclists follow the 5k Lake Road path around the shore.

  • Coaker's walk : One of the popular tourist spots in Kodaikanal, Coaker’s Walk is something worth visiting during your Kodaikanal tour. It is a narrow pedestrian path which is approximately 1 km in length. This mountain road is just half kilometre away from the Kodaikanal Lake. The place offers tourists with a refreshing setting along with breath taking view of the plains. One can have the opportunity to have a clear view of the Dolphin's nose which is located in the south, valley of the Pambar River in South East. You also get a distant view of the Periyakulam along with a view of Madurai city. 
     
  • Upper lake view : Situated 3.2 km away from the Coakers Walk, Upper Lake View is a famous tourist attraction in Kodaikanal and one which is worth visiting. It gives a beautiful view of the Kodaikanal Lake where one can indulge in photography and get some fantastic snaps. The panoramic view of the scenic location offers a dreamy view to the tourists at the Kodaikanal Lake and allows a contrast of the lake against the sullen green of the surrounding hills.
     
  • Moir point : Situated at the entrance of the forest which leads up all the way to the exquisite Berijam Lake, Moir Point is one of the most significant viewpoints present in Kodaikanal. Offering a spectacular view of the valley, Moir Point has always stayed as a hotspot for all the tourists out there. One gets a refreshing bird's viewpoint of the hills along with the villages which surround the region. Being a calm and serene place, tourists get to experience an ideal ambience where they can rejuvenate and unwind at the Moir Point. Sitting beside the nearby Berijam Lake witnessing the sunset view makes up for something. This place is worth spending time at.
     
  • Pine tree forest : Situated in the southwest of Kodaikanal, Pine Forest is one of the most famous tourist spots in the city. It showcases the mesmerizing nature around which has been preserved to date which is why it is also an important preserved heritage in the town. The sight of pine trees present in abundance and welcoming you to their world is nothing but nature's wonder with the forests appearing grey with dried cones and leaves. The forests are surrounded by a vegetation of mushrooms popularly known as the magic mushrooms, which are believed to be hallucinogenic. One can opt for horse riding, nature walks or taking photographs. An exciting camping experience can be looked forward to at the forests after you obtain permission from the local authorities about the same.
     
  • Guna cave : The Guna Caves get their name from the popular movie Guna, which was shot here in 1992. They are originally known as the Devil’s Kitchen. As per Hindu mythology, these caves are where the Pandavas cooked their meals and hence the word ‘kitchen’. Whereas, no one has yet been able to say, where the word ‘Devil’ comes from. According to some travellers, the word Devil comes from the bats that reside in the cave. These dark creatures of the night are known to treat the Guna Caves as their popular hangout for quite some time now.
     
  • Pillar rocks : Constituting a beautiful mini garden; the place is named so as it has three vertically positioned boulders reaching up to a height of 400 feet. The aura here is full of affection and is evidence of a great love story. The view of rocks is not something to be missed. They stand as an untouched miracle for the tourists visiting Kodaikanal. The pillars are famous for providing bird's view of nearby surroundings. The chambers between these two massive rocks are called the Devil's Kitchen. You can come here, sit and relax as you soothe your eyes over the high hill ranges and clear skies. Moreover, do not forget to taste the potato and onion bhaji which is served outside the mini garden.
     
  • Green Valley view : Formerly known as Suicide point, the Green Valley View offers a breathtaking view of the plains, deep valleys and hills. The mesmerizing view of the Vaigai Dam is an unforgettable experience. It used to be known as suicide point because of the dangerous valley which is dense and deep; below the point of more than 5000 feet drop. Located at a distance of 5.5 km from the Kodaikanal Lake, the Green Valley View not just offers a gorgeous view, but is also surrounded by a lot of monkeys. On the way to the point, there are several shops which offer homemade chocolates, ornaments and a wide range of flowers.
     
  • Shopping : A trip is incomplete without any souvenirs. There are various stalls in the local market for your inner shopaholic self. 
     
  • Bryant Park : Situated on the eastern side of the Kodai Lake, the park is bejewelled with various species of plants and shrubs. They vary in a range of flowering plants, hybrids and grafts. Once you've had a stroll on the Cokaer's walk, the pathway will lead you towards the park. It is a popular spot amongst families as they can set up a picnic area in the park and watch their kids run around and tumble in the grass. One section of the park is dedicated to an exotic rose garden that prides itself on the unique and rare species grown there. There is also a greenhouse where plants from all around the world thrive. The park also hosts an Annual Horticulture Show that draws gardening enthusiasts and horticulturalists. 
     
  • Kodai Lake : How can someone visit Kodaikanal and not visit the most famous tourist attraction  there? Kodaikanal Lake is actually a man-made lake but is very beautiful with its green surroundings. Kodaikanal Lake covers a sprawling area of 60 acres and has a star shape. The lake receives water from the Palani Hills and Silver Cascade Waterfalls which is another very famous attraction in Kodaikanal. You can also see a variety of flora, fauna, and aquatic animals. Also, you can spot Kurinji Flower which is peculiar to the Lake. You can also take up several activities like boating, cycling, and others. There are many stalls too from where you can shop for woollen clothes and other stuff. Cycling is a must to experience here because the area you will be cycling on is very gorgeous.
