“Ratan” means Jewel in Hindi and thus the name 'Ratangad', the 'Jewel Fort'. The Ratangad fort is situated on the banks of the famous Bhandardara lake in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra at a height of 4255 feet above sea level.
The trek has numerous highlights from the very starting point of the road ahead. Here is situated a 1200-year-old Amruteshwar Temple known for its high-class architecture. The trail starts from the left side of the Pravara river, exactly opposite the Amruteshwar temple.
Ratangad has still the remains of the fortress with bastions and stone walls. The trail is a mix of forest patches and ladders. Huge caves carved on the top are the best places for accommodation. Water cisterns are usually filled with water throughout the year and trekkers use them as a water source.
The view from the topmost point on the fort is mesmerizing. You can get a complete 360-degree panoramic view from this point. Alang, Madan, Kulang, Kalsubai, Bhandaradara dam (Arthur Lake), Harishchandragad, Sandhan Valley, Ratangad Khutta offer some breathtaking views.
