Midriff Strain, who's influence has been inspired by Deep Purple and Rainbow pay tribute to these great musicians on September 3rd, Saturday. In most fans' minds, Deep Purple and Rainbow go hand in hand, and with good reason -- up until the early '90s, both were led by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. And while Rainbow was supposed to be a departure from Deep Purple's sound, it didn't exactly turn out that way. Winning Combinations is a passable time capsule of '80s Rainbow and Purple. Midriff Strain: Midriff Strain is a classic rock band featuring veterans from the Bangalore rock scene. The band came together during a chance encounter between guitarists, Ranjith and Srikanth. Between them they have several decades of guitar playing experience. The rest of the band comprises of Mals (Lead Vocals), Anil Kakade (Lead Vocals), KD (Drums), Karthik (Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals), Dan Jakes (Keyboard/Backing Vocals) and Oliver (Saxophone). Each member of the band brings to the mix his own style ranging from hard rock, blues, progressive rock, gospel, jazz and metal.
