Craving some escape, however temporary, from the drudgery and stress of everyday life? Head to this abandoned plantation, where you'll find yourself amidst rare species of trees and entwining creepers, exotic flora and fauna as it did probably a century back. Secluded from the outside world and situated at about 3500 feet above sea level, Vagamon is where nature comes to its colourful best. A tiny plantation township in central Travancore, Vagamon has an overtone of green. With a never ending line of lush green hills, breathtaking ravines and meandering rivulets. Tucked away among hillocks on the Western Ghats, Vagamon is verdant foliage territory, where you could laze around for weeks without a soul bothering you. Not many have explored Vagamon. Nearly a century ago, the English chanced up on this land and set up plantations here; followed by Christian missionaries who built here their abode of service. Since then Vagamon remained untouched by explorers and tourists. Climate is far from tropical and temperature hovers between10 and 28degree C. The air is rich with the fragrance from coffee, tea and spice plantations. Reaching Vagamon itself is an extraordinary experience. The meandering road to Vagamon is cut in solid rock lined with pine forests. As you wind your way through green capped hills, the rolling plains comes in to view thousands of feet below you. We welcome nature conscious travellers to experience a place untouched and unspoiled by man and machine.
