Skandagiri Sunrise Night Trek | My Hikes

Skandagiri, historically known as Kalwarbetta or Kalavara Durga, is a mountain fortress situated approximately 70 km from Chennai. This challenging yet immensely rewarding trek offers a breathtaking journey through the wilderness. Beginning from Chennai, travelers can reach the base point to commence the sunrise trek.

The tranquil and captivating ambiance surrounding Skandagiri is bound to elevate your senses and ignite your adventurous spirit. Spanning 8 km, this trek typically takes around 4 hours to complete, encompassing both ascending and descending routes. Widely embraced by both novices and seasoned trekkers, this moderately difficult trek promises an exhilarating experience for all.

The ascent becomes more demanding as you approach the Papagni Temple, navigating through rugged terrains amidst dense shrubbery. Beyond this point, the trail involves a steep climb that may necessitate careful footwork until you reach the summit.

At the hill's zenith, adventurers are greeted by the remnants of Tipu Sultan’s fortress and the vestiges of an abandoned fort. Skandagiri is renowned for its surreal experience of walking above the clouds, offering a truly unforgettable adventure for enthusiasts.

Note: For groups of 5-6 people with transportation on weekdays (Monday to Friday), the cost includes transportation, forest permission, and guide charges.
